About HomeWagger
First, hereâs what HomeWagger is â and what it isnât.
What is HomeWagger?
HomeWagger is the UKâs ethical dog rehoming platform, designed to help dogs find safe, loving homes through a welfare-first, non-commercial approach. Importantly, we connect adopters, rehomers, and shelters in one trusted space.
If youâre new here, start with how HomeWagger protects dogs.
Is HomeWagger a charity?
HomeWagger operates as a hybrid social enterprise. HomeWagger CIC leads the mission and welfare standards, while a separate tech company builds and maintains the platform tools that power the service.
Is HomeWagger just for dogs?
Right now weâre focused on dogs, so we can do one thing really well. In future, we may explore support for other companion animals; however, dogs come first.
Is HomeWagger a marketplace?
No â HomeWagger is not a marketplace. Instead, the platform is designed to reduce pressure, protect welfare, and support suitable matching without dog sales or profit-driven listings.
As a result, people can make calmer decisions and dogs are less likely to be placed into the wrong home.
For Adopters
Getting started with adoption
If youâre considering adopting, these answers explain what to expect and why a calm process matters.
How do I adopt a dog through HomeWagger?
Youâll start by creating an adopter profile and setting your preferences â for example, dog size, energy level, and home setup. You can then browse dogs needing homes and, when you find a good match, express your interest.
For a full overview, visit Adopting a dog responsibly.
What is ethical dog adoption?
Ethical dog adoption prioritises a dogâs long-term welfare, stability, and suitability over speed. As a result, it focuses on honest information, thoughtful matching, and giving both the dog and adopter time to make the right decision.
Do I need to pay to adopt a dog?
HomeWagger doesnât charge adoption fees. However, some shelters or rescues may request an adoption donation or fee; importantly, profit is never the motive â it supports the dogâs care and ongoing welfare.
For example, a rescue may use donations to cover vaccinations, neutering, or behavioural support.
Can I save dogs I like?
You can favourite dogs and revisit them later from your dashboard, so you donât lose track of potential matches.
Adoption checks and suitability
Will I still be vetted before I adopt?
Absolutely. Shelters and rehomers keep full control over who adopts. Your profile helps them understand fit earlier â and they can still carry out applications, checks, and home visits as needed.
In addition, a structured process helps reduce rushed decisions and protects long-term welfare.
For Rehomers
Listing a dog responsibly
If you need to rehome, start here. Importantly, ethical rehoming prioritises welfare over speed.
Can individuals list dogs for rehoming?
Individuals can create a profile and list their dog where it aligns with our ethical rehoming standards. Selling, breeding, and profit-driven listings are not permitted.
For guidance, visit Rehoming a dog responsibly.
What is ethical dog rehoming?
In practice, ethical dog rehoming focuses on finding the right home, not the quickest one. Therefore, it prioritises honesty, suitability, and safeguards that protect both the dog and the adopter from rushed or unsafe placements.
As a result, dogs are more likely to settle well and less likely to face repeat rehoming.
Are listings reviewed before going live?
All listings are reviewed to ensure they follow our welfare-first guidelines. For example, we do not allow breeder listings, sales, or content that puts dogs at risk.
Can I choose who adopts my dog?
You stay in control. HomeWagger helps you reach suitable adopters and manage interest safely; however, the final decision is always yours (or your rescueâs).
Therefore, you can take time to ask questions, consider suitability, and avoid pressure.
For Shelters & Rescues
Tools for busy teams
For shelters, we focus on clarity, safeguarding, and reducing unnecessary admin.
Can our shelter use HomeWagger?
In short, shelters can create profiles, list dogs, manage interest, and connect with adopters in one place. Importantly, weâre building tools specifically with busy rescues in mind.
As a result, teams can spend less time chasing messages and more time focused on welfare.
What is HomeWagger Pro?
HomeWagger Pro is an optional toolkit that can include advanced listing tools, analytics, and workflow support. In addition, Pro is designed to strengthen safety and sustainability â without ever affecting a dogâs chance of being adopted.
Is there a cost for shelters?
Core features are free. However, Pro is optional and designed to be affordable for grassroots and volunteer-run rescues, with revenue reinvested into improving the platform and mission.
How does HomeWagger help reduce repeat rehoming?
Repeat rehoming often happens when decisions are rushed or information is missing. As a result, HomeWagger promotes clearer disclosures, welfare-first safeguards, and better matching to support long-term stability.
For example, structured profiles and respectful messaging help teams identify better-fit enquiries earlier.
