Rehome With Reason
A national movement for safer, kinder dog rehoming in the UK. Across the UK, more dogs are being rehomed through general selling platforms, online advertising sites, and marketplace-style services that were never designed with animal welfare in mind. They may make it easy to post a quick listing — but they don’t provide safety checks, adopter vetting, or proper support.
The Rehome With Reason pledge exists to encourage thoughtful, ethical, welfare-first rehoming — challenging rigid practices where they cause harm, while promoting compassion, transparency, and responsibility across the process.
HomeWagger CIC brings rehomers, adopters, shelters and rescues into one trusted space — so dogs can be matched with care, not urgency.

The problem we’re tackling
When rehoming happens on unregulated, sales-oriented platforms, it can lead to rushed decisions, pressure from strangers, incomplete information, unsafe handovers, and dogs being rehomed multiple times — increasing stress for dogs, owners, adopters, and rescue centres.
- Rushed decisions and “first come, first served” pressure
- No suitability checks or structured vetting
- Incomplete or inaccurate information about a dog’s needs
- Unsafe meet-ups and unsupported handovers
- Behavioural deterioration caused by instability
- Extra strain on already overwhelmed rescue centres
🏥 For Shelters
Practical guides, safety checklists, and a campaign badge to show adopters you rehome with compassion and common sense — while keeping decisions grounded in welfare, risk, and real context.
🐾 For Adopters
Create a profile, share your lifestyle, and be matched on wellbeing and compatibility — not just property type, postcode, or assumptions.
🏠 For Rehomers
Honest, story-led listings that centre each dog’s needs — with a calmer, safer process that helps you find adopters who truly fit.
What the pledge stands for
Rehome With Reason is built on simple, welfare-first commitments:
- No selling or profit-driven rehoming — dogs are family, not items to list.
- Honest, transparent communication — people should feel safe sharing a dog’s needs.
- Proper adopter vetting — suitability, lifestyle, and commitment matter.
- Safe, supported handovers — no rushed meet-ups or pressure.
- Compassionate support for owners — many rehomings come from crisis or overwhelm.
- Reducing strain on rescues — better matching reduces avoidable failed rehomings.
Have You Been Turned Away From Adopting a Dog?
Maybe you don’t have a garden, work shifts, or live in rented housing — and were told you’re “not suitable” without anyone looking at your real circumstances.
Your experience can help change outdated practices and build a kinder, fairer rehoming system.
